THE ECONOMY OF SKILLS

Certificates are becoming less and less important. In the days of our fathers, if you as much as had standard 6, you are an elite. White collar jobs na dem go dey rush you.

Then the standard was raise to bachelors degree, then to Masters. Today having a Ph.D does not guarantee you Nathing.
Graduates are becoming more and more unemployed. 

When i see those highly certified unemployed, broke graduates i feel they have been deceived.
Not in the way that "school is scam". Abeg oo.

But they where trained for an economy that is no more existent. They have been prepared and deployed for a battle that has long shifted to another level

Not that their Training is essentially useless, but it is no longer the Main Arsenal for survival. In this war, certificates are no more the main instrument of offense, i will tell you what are the first line of defense against Hunger and poverty. >>>Skills

It is no longer what you studied, it is not even what you know from what you studied. Yours truly, it is now "What you can do" with what you know from what you studied.

It is down to skills guys. "What can you do" vitally?.

Skill is what you can do and do well. What people can appreciate you for, Whether you got it as a talent, through training or even in school as a professional skill set.

What you can be paid money for. A skill that cannot be monitised cannot serve you here oh.

I wish l knew this before i started school, my academic journey would have been way smoother. I wouldn't have been starting my offense against Third world poverty this late.

People who knew and utilised this did not only see themselves through school, they also started doing really well, some Millionaires while still in school.

I wish every youth will know this, especially the school leavers hustling to enter University. Waiting for 5 years to gain admission to study a course that may prepare them for a life of unemployment thereafter.

Skills are the way forward people of God. We are now in the "Skills economy."

The strategy is simple
Pick a skill you can monitise. Preferably the one you have a lot of passion for.
Become good so much that you can be paid well to perform. Then go to town. Start making Bread to supplement your schooling or Job.

Call it side hustle, whatever. It could mean your passport out of lack forever. It may eventually be you life work after school or when Oyinbo work no dey.

Develop your skills become an expert, specialise in some money spinning area. Add more skills to it. High paying skills.
Do not be left out in this New economy of skills

What then is certificate for? It is like a grenade to a soldier. You throw that 1 in when the going gets tough to open certain doors and ply certain routs.

In Nigeria, except you did a professional course a certificate is now an addendum. Even inside professional course, you need to hold your side with Unique, rewardable, monefiable skills that will bring in the money.

Meanwhile School is not scam. I repeat, school is not scam. I rest my case.
